TenneT taking stock of repairs on NorNed cable
15-04-2009
The NorNed cable has been out of operation since Saturday 11 April due to a fire at the Eemshaven converter station. No interruption in the supply of electricity occurred when the cable, which has a capacity of 700 MW and was transporting electricity from Norway to the Netherlands at the time of the fire, was taken out of operation. However, it is expected that no electricity transmissions will be possible for several weeks at least.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated. TenneT is making every effort to complete the repair and cleaning work as quickly as possible in order to put the NorNed cable back into operation. TenneT is currently taking stock of the required repairs and their estimated duration. It is expected that the cable will not be available to the market for several weeks at least. As soon as more details are available about the date when the NorNed cable will be back in operation this will be communicated.
The NorNed cable is the world’s longest undersea high-voltage cable. It connects the Dutch and Norwegian electricity grids and was completed in May 2008.
