Update repair NorNed cable
07-04-2008
In the last few days Statnett and TenneT made good progress with the repair works of the NorNed cable between Norway and The Netherlands. Another off shore joint has been made under good weather conditions. The completion of the repair works in the coming days stays fully dependent on the weather situation, at this moment the forecast is good.
As soon as all repair works are successfully completed, the NorNed link will be tested to ensure a reliable infrastructure for the market. The test programme comprises a low-power (LP) test sequence to validate the basic functionality of the NorNed HVDC link, followed by a high-power (HP) test sequence to ensure that the infrastructure is capable of a stable and controlled 700 MW transmission. TenneT and Statnett will announce the start of both tests in a news item that will be published on their websites.
TenneT and Statnett will celebrate the start of the NorNed cable by organizing a ceremonial opening once the interconnection is fully available to the market. Due to uncontrolled external factors like bad weather its uncertain when the NorNed cable will be launched exactly. Therefore TenneT and Statnett decided to celebrate the inauguration of the NorNed cable after summer 2008 when the NorNed project is totally completed.
